Who Should Attend

The course is designed for the professionals in Air Cargo Industry to be compliant with the standards established by Industry and required by ICAO.

  • Course Objectives

    This training programme is based on the practical application of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations which include all the requirements of the ICAO Annex 18 and the current edition of the Technical Instructions. It includes:

  • Extracts from the text of the Regulations where necessary.
  • Guidance notes to help you interpret the Regulations.
  • Examples in the application of the Regulations.
  • Practical exercises to test your understanding of the Regulations.
  • After completing this training, you should be familiar with the contents of the Dangerous Goods Regulations and will be able to deal with all types of dangerous goods covered by the Dangerous Goods Regulations. Specifically, the candidates will be able to:
  • Apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations correctly.
  • Understand the legal aspects involved.
  • Differentiate between shipper's and operator's responsibilities and identify your responsibility.
  • Identify dangerous goods which are:
  • Forbidden for air transport, or
  • Permitted as cargo under the Regulations, or
  • Excepted from the Regulations in all or in part
  • Identify the nine classes of dangerous goods by their principle criteria.
  • Read the Alphabetical List of Dangerous Goods and apply the information it contains.
  • Apply the general packing requirements and the specific packing instructions or verify that they have been followed
  • Verify that the use of a packaging complies with the limitations of the specification indicated on the package.
  • Properly mark and label a dangerous goods package or verify the marking and labelling requirements have been met.
  • Complete a Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods or verify the information provided on the form complies with the Regulations.
  • Properly enter the appropriate information on the Air Waybill or verify that the information was entered properly.
  • Recognize and apply the appropriate State and/or Operator variations.
  • Accept or reject a shipment correctly by use of an acceptance check list.
  • Storage and Loading;
  • Follow general emergency procedures when a damaged/leaking package is discovered.
  • The course consists of modules where students are required to complete a number of exercises achieving a score of at least 80%. Once the course is completed to a satisfactory level, students will be enrolled onto examination. Following successful completion of the examination, students will be issued with a training certificate valid for 24 months.
